Proudly Nova Scotian.
We are innovative nurse practitioner-led private medical clinics providing a personalized approach to medical care in Nova Scotia, with two convenient locations (Halifax and Mahone Bay). Bluenose Health uses a limited subscription-based membership to offer clients timely access to primary health care. Our focus is to provide every patient with the individual attention to meet his or her specific health care needs.
At Bluenose Health, we believe that timely access to care is vital to the health of all Nova Scotians. Our subscription-based membership model provides for a limited number of patients per nurse practitioner, allowing our NPs to spend a quality amount of time with each patient while continuing to ensure short wait times to book an appointment.

Two levels of care.
We offer two levels of primary care services:
Your Bluenose Health membership is portable, allowing you convenient access by appointment to either of our clinics when you need it.
**Some insurers require a referral to cover PT fees
- Bluenose Health Primary Care (Halifax): providing medical services delivered by a collaborative team of nurse practitioners, registered nurses, and medical administrative staff to address your healthcare needs.
- Bluenose Health Plus Primary Care (Mahone Bay): providing the same level of nurse practitioner-led team-based services as our Halifax clinic with the addition of direct access to a registered physiotherapist (PT). “Direct access” means no need to wait for a physician or nurse practitioner referral**. Whether it’s back pain, a sore shoulder, recovery from an accident or injury, or a simple desire to improve function, you can book an appointment directly with our dedicated physiotherapist. And, if you’re currently seeing one of our NPs, our patient-centred approach ensures that your PT services are coordinated within your overall care plan.

What's the difference between an RN and an NP?
Nurse Practitioners (NPs) perform more advanced duties than a registered nurse and can provide direct patient care without a physician’s oversight. They have earned a registered nursing (RN) license and gone on to complete a graduate program in a Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse Practitioner degree. This advanced training allows them to diagnose and treat medical conditions, prescribe medicines, and order and interpret diagnostic tests. They can also specialize in certain areas of healthcare such as women’s health, pediatrics, or gerontology.
Nurse practitioners are recognized for their patient-centred approach. Their advanced training allows them to diagnose and treat a variety of common illnesses, chronic conditions and injuries, as well as focus on health promotion and preventative care. While they can operate independently, they often collaborate with physicians to address more complex cases or facilitate ongoing care to specialists (e.g. oncologists, surgeons).
Nurse practitioners are playing a critical role in bridging the gap between traditional nursing care and more advanced healthcare services. No matter which clinical services you need, our highly-trained nurse practitioners are here to help.
